What is RIFT™?

RIFT  is a new fantasy massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) from Trion Worlds, where thousands of players adventure together to save a world being torn apart by magical rifts that unleash deadly planar invasions.

Is this an MMO?

Yes, RIFT is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) set in a unique fantasy world.

Who is Trion Worlds? 

Trion Worlds is the publisher and developer of server-based dynamic online games and original entertainment for the connected world. With a mission to revolutionize interactive entertainment by combining the best elements of online, gaming, and traditional media, Trion has built a technology platform that provides groundbreaking new capabilities and is currently focused on developing and publishing compelling content. 

Headquartered in Redwood Shores, Calif., with development and technology studios in San Diego, Calif., and Austin, Texas, Trion combines vision and experience in the interactive entertainment industry with a world-class team of internet and gaming veterans. Between them, Trion's team members have developed and shipped more than 100 original titles.

When will RIFT be released?

We are targeting 2011, but have not yet set an official release date for RIFT. For the latest information about RIFT please refer back to this website and also sign-up to receive the newsletter. 

What races can I play in RIFT? 

You can choose from many different races to adventure as in the world of Telara. These races range from the elusive High Elves to the loyal Mathosians. For more information on the races that have been revealed, visit the Races page.

What classes can I play in RIFT?

You can choose from many different classes at the beginning of the game. However, in RIFT, the initial class selection is only the first step in an extremely deep and advanced class development system that allows players to customize and alter their classes in potentially hundreds of different ways. The RIFT class system will certainly be an innovation in the MMO genre. We will be announcing more details about our complete class system in the near future. In the meantime, visit the Classes page for information about the classes that have already been revealed.

Will there be Player vs. Player combat in RIFT? 

Player vs. Player (PvP) combat will definitely exist inside of RIFT in many forms and fashions. More details will be released about our PvP systems and servers in the upcoming future.

Will there be crafting / trade skills in RIFT?

RIFT will feature a robust and comprehensive crafting and gathering system.  We will be releasing more details about this important game system in the near future.

Will I have to buy a subscription to play RIFT?

Yes, you will need to buy a monthly subscription to play RIFT. However, the exact price is still being determined and will be announced much closer to game’s launch.

Will there be guilds in RIFT?

Absolutely. The game will offer a comprehensive guild system that will be accessible for player organizations both large and small.

Will RIFT have factions?

Yes. The world of Telara is divided up politically between two major factions: the Guardians and the Defiant. Both factions have plans to save the world from planar destruction, but in very different ways. The factions are engaged in open conflict and battle frequently. Because of this warfare, the factions cannot group up or form guilds with one another in RIFT.

Will RIFT be available in different languages? If so, which ones? 

Currently, RIFT is scheduled to be available in English, French, and German.

Will RIFT be available to buy as a digital download? 

Yes, RIFT will be available both as a digital download and as a boxed product in your local video-game retail store.

I would like to create a RIFT fan site. What should I do? 

That's great news! You can start by downloading the RIFT fansite kit.

Once you have read through the enclosed documents and gotten your site up and running, please let us know on the community forums, and we will make sure you get some exposure.

How can I get into the beta test?

There will be a beta test sometime in 2010. Sign-up for the newsletter and bookmark this page to get the latest information and news about RIFT.
